Can you believe its December 23rd?! We took off Saturday morning just before the storm hit KC and arrived in Nashville where it was 75 degrees (?!!) and tornado weather! It’s cooling off now and should be chillier for Christmas, which is nice, but we won’t get the white Christmas that Kansas City is experiencing, and thats ok, its so nice to be home with family. A week ago Friday i helped put together our ward Christmas party. I needed to do centerpieces for 30 round tables with basically no budget, i had a little bit of money but really needed to spend as little as possible. I took advantage of the season and picked up free Christmas tree clippings from Home Depot, did you know they will just give you the clippings that come off of the trees? There was a ton so what we did was using garden clippers we trimmed the pieces into manageable lengths (between 8-12″ long pieces) and then we just arranged them on the table in a circle, we just laid them on the table no wiring or glueing together. I made cones out of kraft paper to put in the center and then we used fresh oranges and clementines and placed them on the pine leaves. I thought it turned out very festive, simple and pretty.
To make the paper cones i just made a cone shaped template and traced it out on my brown kraft paper back to back (see the photo below) so as to waste as little paper as possible. You can get a template HERE. I connected the sides with washi tape, if you wanted you could use hot glue so that the seam would be invisible, i love washi tape so i was ok with the tape being exposed. I apologize for not having step by step photos, i was in a rush to get everything done before the party so this time, this is as good as it gets. 😉
