Red, White, & Blue Donut Hole Kabobs

Red, White & Blue Donut Hole Kabobs for the 4th of July breakfast!
Oh a donut, a donut I love a donut. My favorite donut shop in Kansas City is Donut King and last Saturday I made a stop. I really need to starting eating healthier. ha! Anyway I picked up 3 dozen for the sales guys that work for Matt and took them down to the office and of course got a few for the kids and I.  I’m a big fan of the donut hole, those little babies are dangerous though you can pop a dozen before you know it! How do you make a donut hole even tastier? Add some fresh whipped cream and berries! Perfect 4th of July dessert, am I right?

These cute little things come together easily but there is a few tricks to making them stand up.  First of all if you want them to stand up cut a regular size skewer in half, if you fill the entire large skewer it will be too heavy to stand up.  You could always serve them all laid flat on a plate.  I started to just dollop the whipped cream onto the donut hole but it didn’t look pretty enough for photos so I did put my whipped cream into a pastry bag and then piped it onto the donut holes.

Whipped cream is so simple to make and there is nothing better than fresh made.  If you mix 1 cup of heavy cream with 1 tablespoon of sugar and whisk it for several minutes until stiff peaks form. It usually takes me about 5-8 minutes to get to the stiffness I like.

I found it easiest to pipe the whipped cream onto the donut hole and then slide it onto the kabob. I also put the kabobs into red and white mini muffin cup liners.  Enjoy making your own creations! I’d love to see if you make these just tag me on instagram @handmadeintheheartland
