Pizza Planet Sugar Cookie Party Favors

Toy Story Pizza Planet Pizza Sugar Cookie Party Favors
I’m so excited to share these awesome favors with you, its one of those projects that came out even cuter in person than i had envisioned it in my head.  I shared with you yesterday Max’s 3rd birthday we celebrated at Chuck-e-Cheese’s and i just did a few Toy Story themed items like cupcake toppers, bandana’s like Woody’s for all the kids to wear and these favors.  If you aren’t familiar with the Toy Story movies Pizza Planet is the “Chuck-e-Cheese” of the movie; and so i made a printable to fit right on top of the personal pan pizza boxes that i picked up at pizza hut.

The cookies were so fun to make, i made my favorite sugar cookie dough (recipe below), rolled them out and then used a bowl turned upside down to cut them out.  I made 4 different colors of icing to create the pizza toppings- red for the sauce, white for the cheese, green for the peppers and orange for the pepperoni.  To ice them i used an offset spatula to spread the red for the sauce, if you don’t have an offset spatula, get one, it will change your life (well not really but it will make icing anything so much easier). The 3 topping colors i put into pastry bags with different tips, i used wilton #233 for the cheese , wilton #3 for the peppers and a little bit larger circle tip wilton #5 for the pepperoni.
Sugar Cookies with Buttercream Frosting

2 cups sugar
2 sticks butter, softened
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup sour cream
6 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp soda
2 tsp salt

Preheat your oven to 350.  Cream the butter and sugar until combined and smooth.  Add the eggs.  Add the vanilla, and sour cream and mix until combined.  Add the soda & salt and mix until combined.  Add 4 cups of flour and combined and then add the rest.  Turn your dough out onto a floured work surface or a Roul’pat.  I can’t say enough about my demarle roul’pat, no need for extra flour because nothing sticks to it and it makes my life so much easier! I’m pretty sure the magic trick to making these super super delicious is rolling them out thick, like 1/2″ thick.  Bake them for 8-9 minutes and let them cool completely.
Classic Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

2 sticks of unsalted butter, softened
8 cups (2 lbs) powdered sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 tsp vanilla
food coloring (i prefer the gel kind)

Cream your butter until it is super smooth.  Add most of the powdered sugar, the milk and the vanilla and mix on low speed. (When i was taking a cake decorating class the instructor told us that the most common error is over-mixing icing, and if you never go over the first speed on your mixer once you put the powdered sugar in you wont over-mix it.) Keep adding the rest of the sugar until its smooth.  Sometimes depending on elevation and humidity you may need to add a little more liquid or sugar, just look at the consistency and make the call. This recipe is pretty foolproof, i use it for everything! Divide it up into different bowls and mix in food coloring to make your different colors then pour it into pastry bags to decorate!

I also cut out a little square of wax paper to put under each cookie so they didn’t make grease marks in the box, not that it matters that much but if you’re going through all the work you might as well.  In all honesty this was actually a little bit less daunting that a normal batch of sugar cookies because they were so big and i only made 12 so it didn’t take all that long to do.

I made a version of the pizza planet label without the “thanks for coming to max’s party” and you can download the printable HERE.
