I love these soda bottles! I made them for my segment on KCLive yesterday. I think they add such a cute element to a halloween party, don’t you? I designed them with images i found all around the internet and you can download them for free HERE and HERE. Because they are black & white you can print them out on any home printer. Just cut on the gray lines and then using double stick tape at the ends stick them on to your soda bottles. I used ibc rootbeer and orange crush for the brown & orange colors.
Below you can see i placed them on the super cute striped spider runner i made for the show. I love how it turned out. Keep reading to see the full tutorial- go ahead and make your own, it so easy and you’ll have it to display for many halloweens to come!
Striped Spider Runner
Supplies:
2 yards of thick white fabric. i bought mine at walmart for $3 a yard.
sewing machine & white thread
2″ painters tape
ruler & pencil
orange spray paint
spider stencil or a craft cutter and vinyl
black craft paint & brush
Instructions:
Cut your fabric so that it is 30″ wide by 2 yards long. Fold it in half lengthwise and iron. Sew the side seam up at 1/2″. Turn right side out and iron flat. Fold the open ends over 1/2″ and then 1/2″ again, pin. Sew the folded over edges closed to have a nice finished runner. Your done with sewing!
Using painters tape mask of your stripes. I used 2″ painters tape and left 4 1/2″ between each piece of tape to make the spray painted stripes a little more than double the white (taped off) stripes. When i taped off i cut a little extra tape on the top and bottom of the runner so i could fold it over to the back.
Take it outside and spray paint! i did about 3 coats.
After it dries remove the tape and see your cute striped runner. 🙂 at this point i was tempted to just keep it striped, but i think the spiders added a lot. You can find a spider stencil at your local craft store or if you have a silhouette like me you can cut your own stencils out of stick on vinyl. You can see in the picture above that i made 2 different sizes of spiders and then after they were cut out i placed them on the runner. I painted them with just plain old black craft paint and let the paint dry before i removed the vinyl. Honestly the paint still “spilled” out under the stencil so it wasn’t perfect, but i love the look and feel it gives to the runner, you can tell its not a perfect store-bought item, its got character! (maybe i’m just telling myself that to make me feel better about it, either way i do like it)
Once you remove your spider stencils you are ready to display it in your home or at a party, yay for making your own runner!
